What Is Monovision Eye Surgery?
Monovision is an eye surgery option that some eyecare specialists use to deal with presbyopia.
Normally we have binocular vision, which is where both eyes equally share the work of looking at something.
But, most people have (or develop) an eye that that is more dominant, just like most people have a hand that is. So if you’re right handed you’re probably right-eye’d too.
This dominant eye is usually better at seeing things at a distance, and this what monovison takes advantage of.
With monovision eye surgery the less dominant eye will be left slightly nearsighted so that your brain will use it for focusing on things up close and use the dominant (and corrected) eye for focusing at things far away.
So each eye will be doing more of the work at different times, hence the term monovision.
One warning though, some people can find it hard to adjust to not having binocular vision, so try it with contacts before getting the surgery done.
I hope this helps you understand monovision eye surgery.
Have a great day!
